[Apr 2026] BJSM manuscript rejection
What happened:
A manuscript was desk rejected from the British Journal of Sports Medicine because it was not considered to have sufficient clinical relevance for the journal. For a biomechanics-heavy manuscript, it is somewhat expected - but not really, because BJSM does look for papers that potentially influence guidelines, and we have made this clear in the manuscript.
Next step:
Identify more suitable journal and revise for that.
[Dec 2025] Public Engagement funding application unsuccessful
What happened:
Our application for our translational project, TRACE, to Imperial Public Engagement Seed Fund application was unsuccessful.
Analysis:
The application was unsuccessful mainly because the panel felt the proposed activities were closer to consultation/user-testing than true co-design, with limited opportunity for public participants to shape TRACE meaningfully. They also felt the benefits, buy-in, remuneration, expenses, and longer-term engagement legacy for public participants were not clear.
Decision
We would apply for other translational fundings to support the co-design and development.
[May 2023] IRCOBI abstract rejection
What happened:
An abstract submitted to IRCOBI was not accepted. This is my first submission for the PhD. One review questioned the mouthguard validation, and another questioned the FE model validation, which both was validated and relevant paper cited.
Later...
This study was submitted to the IOC conference and was accepted. I hence got the chance to present it in Monaco.
